“La gota que colmó la copa”: Motivaciones de personas que participaron por primera vez de una protesta durante el verano del 2019

Resumen
La participación en olas de protestas, como las del verano del 2019 en Puerto Rico, se encuentra atada a cómo personas y comunidades producen sentido sobre los malestares sociales percibidos. En este artículo describo y analizo las motivaciones de tres mujeres y tres hombres que participaron por primera vez de una protesta durante las manifestaciones del verano del 2019 a quienes entrevisté en el 2021. Analicé las narrativas de las personas participantes integrando elementos del estudio de los movimientos sociales, la psicología social-comunitaria construccionista y la psicología cultural. Entre los factores que motivaron a las personas participantes se destacan el chat, la política pública, el deseo de cambio social, entre otros. Se destaca en las narrativas de las personas entrevistadas la construcción de una identidad colectiva entre las personas que participaron de las protestas y la representación de la élite política como un exogrupo. Queda por explorar la proporción de personas que en el verano del 2019 participaron por primera vez de una protesta y los modos en que sus perspectivas y acción política se han transformado.
